With the summer holidays nearly over and students returning to their educational establishments, are suitable and sufficient emergency procedures in place to ensure the safe evacuation of all users of the building and does anyone ask ?
Most people assume procedures together with appropriate equipment to ensure everyone including those with disabilities can be evacuated safely, but are they ?
Just this week we had an enquiry for some evacuation chairs for a school, we offered a free survey that was not required as the chairs were needed urgently so provided a quotation to then be asked if we have any cheaper models as they have seen a cheaper transit chair on the internet. We explained that is a completely different product and does not travel down the stairs in the same way. Unfortunately we have not heard back from them !
As some of our previous blogs have highlighted, it is essential that the right equipment, training and procedures are in place and not just a tick box exercise to hang something on the wall.
If you are a member of staff of a school, a governor, a director of an academy, a parent or a student do ask the question and check appropriate provisions are in place to evacuate all users of the building.
