Since the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 Report has been available there has been a lot of discussion about Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs).
As indicated in some of our previous blogs, mobility impaired and vulnerable people can not wait for more guidance to be issued before action is taken, have we got priorities wrong, so much focus on fire doors but we still can not get people out of buildings and all responsible persons and duty holders must take ownership of what is required !
Action must be taken now to ensure lives are not at risk and there must be engagement between the relevant stakeholders now rather than awaiting further Government guidance.
If you or someone you know is a resident in a block of flats, check out FIRE Safety in Flats (publishing.service.gov.uk) and information from your local Fire and Rescue Service’s website
If you are a landlord, housing association or service provider acting as a managing agent, facilities manager, concierge or waking watch service if you have not seen this, check out https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/65e9def95b6524001af21bcc/Fire_Safety_in_Purpose_Built_Blocks_of_Flats_Guide-update.pdf and where paragraphs 79.9-79.11 have been removed, consider what improvements you can make to ensure mobility impaired and vulnerable residents can be evacuated safely and the Fire Service are made aware of their location.
Let’s get talking and take action now.
On our mission to raise awareness and improve standards if we can be of assistance please get in touch.
