Many Responsible Persons and Duty Holders will be aware of what is often referred to as “Call Challenge”, a process that involves asking the duty-holder with responsibility for a premises whether they have investigated a fire alarm activation before calling the Fire Service to save wasting their time attending false fire alarm activations.
Fire and Rescue Services throughout the UK have introduced this policy at various times and from October 2024, London Fire Brigade are changing their policy https://www.london-fire.gov.uk/safety/the-workplace/automatic-fire-alarms/afa-policy/
It is essential that suitable and sufficient emergency procedures are in place to ensure the safe evacuation of all users of your premises and that fire risk assessments and supporting documentation are regularly reviewed and fire drills are carried out.
If you do not think you could evacuate mobility impaired persons from your premises or unsure of current requirements we can provide a free site assessment and our exitassured training to assist you with being able to demonstrate compliance and more importantly confident that you can evacuate everyone at any time.
